Trip to Surin Islands

Escape to pristine Surin Islands, 60km offshore in a protected national park with untouched coral reefs, ancient rainforest, and a semi-permanent Moken sea gypsy community. Multiple trip options from day tours to 3-day camping adventures with tent accommodation provided.

Overview

Surin Island is in Mu Koh Surin National Park, situated 60 km from the west coast of Phang Nga province, and 100 km to the north of the Similans, is an archipelago of 5 islands: Koh Surin Nuea, Koh Surin Tai, Koh Ri, Koh Khai, and Koh Klang. The excellent diving, snorkelling, hiking and game fishing are what most visitors come for, and those hoping to find a quiet refuge from the tourist traps and urban centres will be delighted with the islands' lack of "development". The main island of Surin Nuea has several bays, the largest being Ao Mae Yai on the southwest, which features calm waters and safe anchorage. On the southeast side is Ao Luek, which has shallow corals and an abundance of marine life. Ao Mai Ngam is where the National Park's office is found, as well as a 2-kilometre walking path. There's good snorkelling and swimming here off its long beach. Ao Chak at the north of Surin Nuea is a beautiful bay of pristine coral reefs.

Surin Nuea is also home to a community of around 150 Moken, or "sea gypsies", who have settled there on a semi-permanent basis for several decades. The Moken spend much of their lives on their boats, called "kabang". They survive mainly through the gathering of shellfish and other marine life from the reefs.

The Surin Islands themselves are layered with ancient rainforest which provide a home to a number of interesting species. These include lizards, flying fox, reticulated python and pig-tailed macaque to name but a few. There have also been over 90 species of birds reported on the islands.
We offer several options for visiting these islands:

  • 1 Day Tour (start at 08:30 from the pier and return at 16:30, lunch included);
  • Day Trip open (you can stay at Surin Island at yourself and return when you want, accomodation and meals at the second day not included);
  • 2 Days 1 Night in tent (tent, 4 meals included, a sleeping bag, pillow, sleeping mat and one towel are provided for each person staying in a tent)
  • 3 Days 2 Nights in tent (7 meals included).

We recommend staying in the national park for 1 or 2 nights. This way you will have a more relaxing stay and greater opportunities to see a diverse range of marine life.

There are two ways to the Surin Islands: from Greenview pier (it's closer by the sea) and from Namkhem pier, please choose which is more convenient for you.

If you prefer to stay at National Park in Bungalow (not tent), the surcharge is

  • 2 persons room 2000 THB per night,
  • 4 persons room 3000 THB per night.
